A large number of young and not-so-young couples choose the Caribbean for their honeymoon, and who can blame them. You only have to look at the pictures in any holiday brochure or online to see a beautiful turquoise sea and beautiful blue sky, and for once it really is.
The sea is that color, and crystal clear too. The beaches are really white sand and it’s hot, but that being said, the heat is cooled by the ever-present trade winds. You can see at a glance why many people believe that the Caribbean is the closest thing to paradise.
You may have read about various problems, violence, tropical hurricanes, and they do exist. However, it is necessary to put it in context. There is no place in the world that does not have behavior problems, and the Caribbean is no different. There are areas that it is better not to visit, but much closer to home there are streets that you would not want to walk on at night. The advice of your travel agent should normally be heeded.
What this means is researching until you find a place that meets everything you want on a Caribbean honeymoon. This would probably include a place that is not only safe but also clean. Also, it should probably be beautiful, definitely romantic, idyllic in fact. Likewise, that description is not the same for everyone, because what one thinks is idyllic the other thinks is ordinary at best.
However, there are places that stand out as idyllic Caribbean honeymoon destinations, like the tiny six-room Amaudo Hotel on Cocolo Beach in Guadalupe. Possibly, as a reader of this article, you have never considered Guadalupe, well, maybe you should.
Another destination worth considering for a Caribbean honeymoon might be Ottley’s Plantation Inn on St Kitts, again possibly an island less regarded by the masses.
If nothing else, we hope this article has given you some thought before you jump in and choose Barbados or Antigua, when there are so many more Caribbean islands to consider on your honeymoon.
