HAS Affirmation of Louise Hay The movie helped me go from being sick to being healthy… find out how…

Do you have a cold right now? Feeling a little under the weather? Do you lack energy or feel like you spend most of the cold winter months sobbing? If so, you would not be the only ones. I’m originally from the UK and half of my friends back home seem to have caught some sort of bug during the transition from the (very short) British summer and cooler autumn months.

Although it is to be expected, right? Temperature changes…new bugs…poor immune systems…lack of sunlight. All of these are regularly given as reasons for illness. How many times have you explained an illness as a poor immune system, or a lack of vitamin C, or even burning the candle at both ends? But is this really the case? What if the problem went deeper than that? What if the problem was related to how you feel inside?

I recently saw a great movie called Heal Your Life by Louise Hay. Louise Hay is a giant in the world of affirmations and is famous for curing her cervical cancer through positive thinking. This may seem a bit out of place and a new era to some people, but think about your own experiences for a moment. Think of a time when she was doing something every day that she didn’t enjoy. It could have been a job, studying, in a bad relationship. How did you feel at the end of the day? Full of energy? For most people, the answer would be no.

I myself have some direct experience of this. Before I left the UK I was quite unhappy. Not unhappy manic-depressive, but dissatisfied. I did not enjoy my work. I found fault with my relationships and, most of all, I found fault with myself. Looking back now, I realize that it was a huge ball of negative thoughts. So how did I feel? Terrible is the answer. Physically I was in the worst case. I gained a lot of weight and picked up all the bugs that were out there. I ended up taking so many sick days that I got a written warning from work, it was that bad!

At that time I made a lot of excuses about the weather, drinking too much, not eating healthy, not exercising, etc. At that time they didn’t even seem to be excused. They were reasons that he had accepted since he was a child… when it’s cold you’re more likely to get the flu, if you work next to a sick person you’re likely to catch the bug. At no time did I relate my worsening physical condition to the way I felt emotionally. I knew that being unhappy or unmotivated didn’t help my energy levels, but I didn’t make the leap to link my illness to my unhappiness.

My life has changed a lot since this point and I am enormously grateful for that fact. I took the plunge, left the UK and ended up in Honduras working with great people who focus on positive thinking, spiritual growth and financial freedom. It has been a truly transformative experience. I am happy most of the time, I identify when I fall into negative thought patterns and work to get out of them. I live in a supportive and loving environment that allows me to continue to grow!

What occurred to me after the Louise Hay movie and inspired me to write this article was that I got sick about three times last year. Two of those times were because I was being silly by not drinking enough water and once it was because I was being a little experimental with my restaurant choices. No colds, no flu, no exhaustion, no chest infections. I’m not eating much healthier, or exercising much more. In fact, the only external difference has been the weather!

The main difference, and I think what has improved my health, has been the internal changes I have made. I have started to be honest with myself about how I feel. I focus on the positive things in life. I stop negative behavior. I have spent time working on negative belief patterns. I started using affirmations on a daily basis and listening to inspirational and positive authors like Louise Hay, Abraham-Hicks, Dan Millman and many more. My health has improved in direct relation to my happiness.

I truly believe that anyone can be healthier simply by incorporating positive thoughts into their lives. It doesn’t have to be a difficult process. Here are some ideas based on things I’ve used with success.

  1. Try to say an affirmation every day. I wasn’t really comfortable with affirmations at first, so if you’re the same, be patient with yourself. Louise Hay does some great YouTube – Hay Affirmations is a great channel too. Find an affirmation set to music or a message that you can relate to and just listen to it, try it out in the morning and at night before you go to bed.
  2. Read a book or watch a movie. There are so many great books and movies about personal growth out there. Like I said, Louise Hay’s Heal Your Life was the inspiration for this article, but there are plenty of other good movies. One book I would really recommend is Abraham-Hicks, Ask and It Shall Be Given. Really inspiring stuff.
  3. Find out what your passions are. Take 15 minutes to think about what you are passionate about and make sure it has a place in your life.
  4. Be grateful for everything around you. Just sit in a place that you find relaxing and beautiful (for me it’s the beach) and spend a few minutes thinking about what you’re grateful for.
  5. Start appreciating yourself more. Seriously, you are in the best place to do it! Think of all the wonderful things you have. If there is any part of you that makes you feel uncomfortable (weight, honesty, generosity) write it down and analyze it. Try to move from the negative place and think of an increasingly positive thought.
  6. Final trick, is when you start to feel exhaustion or illness, do not accept it. It is a negative thought form. Just focus on something else, or say the affirmation “I’m healthy and happy.” It sounds crazy but it works!

Regardless, I hope that if illness or burnout is a recurring theme in your life, you’ll give these ideas a try. What can you lose? Find an inspiration like an Affirmation movie by Louise Hay and be happy and healthy!
