One day I was sitting at a small event learning something new. I realized that Jorge, next to me, was no longer paying attention to what was being taught from the front of the room. Instead, he was browsing his Facebook newsfeed. For the sake of market research, I started looking at it.

Then I realized that, on my other side, Gus was also scrolling through his Facebook newsfeed.

What I noticed both of them were doing was just stopping and looking at the posts that included an image. They were skipping all posts that were text only. This confirmed for me something that I had been seeing on our clients’ pages and the pages that I look at regularly. The posts that had the most engagement had pictures! At the time, he was also not paying attention to what was being taught. However, this has proven to be a very valuable lesson for me.

It is very important that you add images to your newsfeed, as this is what will get people’s attention.

  1. Please select an option:
    • Upload photos / videos: Post photos from your computer. The photos you post will be added to your timeline photo album.
    • Add synced photos: If you have photo syncing turned on, you can post photos that have been synced from your phone or tablet. The photos you post will be added to your timeline photo album.
    • Create photo album: Post photos from your computer to a new album.
  2. Select the photos you want to add to Facebook.

It is also better if you can tag a friend or fan in your images. You will get more edgerank when you do. PLUS, adding the location works great when your business is local. When I attend local events, I do my best to add my location as it benefits both me and my city.

The type of photos you post will also make a difference in the interaction you receive. When posting images for business and marketing purposes, be sure to steer clear of Facebook colors as they will blend in more with the platform itself.

Look for images that grab attention and use humor when appropriate for you and your fans. If you are having trouble finding images to post, remember that you can “share” appropriate images from other Facebook pages. Make sure your content is relevant or entertaining.
