I just finished watching The Karate Kid (2010) and just like the previous Karate Kid movies I’ve seen, from The Karate Kid 1 to The Next Karate Kid, I felt really light and happy and full of hope. Yeah! Those are the effects these movies have had on me. Some people might find it funny, even weird that I feel that way, but I really can’t deny that fact! And for good reason, rather reasons, which I will list in a moment.

“You have taught me a very important lesson, Xiao Dre. Life will knock us down, but we can choose whether or not we get up.” ~ Mr. Han (Jackie Chan)

Yes, history is predictable. Anyone will know from the beginning of the movie that the boy will win, but only after he’s been hurt, “broken” (I note they like to use this term in all versions of the movie) physically, specifically the leg, but I guess there That’s where the moral is. from the story really emerges. That even though you’re scared, hurt emotionally and physically, and feel like giving up, the important thing is that you keep going and fight (whether it’s for something or someone you love) because at the end of the day, the only thing that would matter is that you gave it away. all. And that even if you lose, at least you don’t give up. And with that kind of attitude, you can still say you’re a winner.

Dr. Parker: Do you think he could have won?

Mr. Han: Winning or losing doesn’t matter, Xiao Dre.

Dr. Parker: You know that’s not what I mean.

Mr. Han: Yes. I think you had good luck.

Dr. Parker: So let’s do the fiery cup thing.

Mr. Han: You don’t need to fight anymore. You’ve tried everything you need to try.

Dr. Parker: What, that they can easily beat me up and then quit? That is not balance, that is not real Kung Fu. You said that when life knocks you down, you can choose whether or not you get up. Well, I’m trying to get back up, so why don’t you help me?

Mr. Han: Because I can’t see how they hurt you anymore.

Dr. Parker: Please, Mr. Han, please.

Mr. Han: Just tell me, Xiao Dre, why? Why do you have such a need to go back there?

Dr. Parker: Because I’m still afraid. And whatever happens, tonight, when I leave, I don’t want to be afraid anymore.

Everyone in this world, yes no one is excused, experiences the harsh realities of life. Although it comes in different degrees, but still it is something that we have to face day after day. Some may even “break” us to the point of giving up, but I still believe that we should never lose hope. And just like the Karate Kid, never give up. We owe it to ourselves to at least try. I know it can be difficult at times, but if something or someone is really important, then risks shouldn’t be an obstacle to trying to make the best of any situation. Because after all is said and done, only 2 things can happen. You either “win” and actually get what you want (and of course you deserve it since you fought for it!) or you “lose” and consider it a “lesson learned” so you don’t make the same mistake and/or know what to do. do the next time the same thing happens (and eventually win!). Whatever the outcome, whether you’re a “wax/wax” babe or the modern “put on/pick up your jacket”, I think it’s actually a win-win situation, don’t you? ?

Other lessons I learned from the movie: There’s a time to act and a time to walk away. It is not enough to know the movements and defeat an enemy, we must know that it is not about winning or losing, it is about living with respect, controlling oneself and not others, and treating others with the honor and decency that you wait. back from them. And, of course, these things that we’ve all learned since kindergarten but sadly often neglect for one reason or another: honoring our parents, loving our neighbor and ourselves, respecting those in authority and ourselves, keeping our integrity intact, being a true friend, and keeping promises.

By the way, I love the fact that they chose Jackie Chan as the teacher this time. He is so perfect for the role. His philosophies on life and who he really is fit the story perfectly. I’ve loved him since Drunken Master, I love him until now. Will and Jada Smith’s adorable son Jaden (a mini Will in terms of looks and mannerisms) is turning out to be quite the actor. I saw a movie of him with his dad and let’s just say some really good “acting genes” do run through his veins.
