I fondly remember a life well lived. Sure, there were moments of heartache and sadness, but overall I stuck to my convictions. But, as I remember many times, those convictions got me into a lot of trouble. However, I managed to survive with only a few scratches and bruises. Now, when I compare the times of my youth with today, the stark contrasts are so evident. In particular, the behavior patterns of society. In many ways, there has been a steady decline throughout our society. The morals, ethics, individual responsibility, and integrity that many of my generation possessed were instilled by our parents and our schools. Some 60 years later, much of what we see today reflects the backwardness of many of the basic principles that we were taught so long ago.

There are a lot of factors as to why society has descended into a quagmire. One of the most significant factors is the disintegration of the family unit. This is where both parents, the father and the mother, worked together to raise their child or children. There is a lot of blame to go around for this collapse. When we consider the so-called evolution of the entertainment industry’s music, movies, games, and toys, we see a disturbing trend that has manifested itself to where we are today.

It was in the late 1960s that the Dr. Spock mindset swept across the country. That period was the turning point of our entire society. You could almost see the transformation taking place before our eyes, and yet no one realized the magnitude of the collateral damage this philosophy would do to our society. As if overnight the generation-long refinement instilled in us by our parents and our schools was relegated to less structured, more casual behavior. It was this sea change that fostered a relaxation of the discipline, moral character, and code of ethics that was a perennial part of the education of previous generations. The sweeping changes that occurred decades later, the results in our society have been so profound in a reversal of not only educational standards, but also moral and ethical standards throughout this nation.

So, for the last 50 years, this nation has seen three generations being systematically cheated by an education system that no longer exists. By some unintelligent design, the results we are seeing today have made it possible for much of the population to be once again misled into accepting and even embracing the Trump doctrine we have today. Too many now are unable to fully understand what the implications are of what Trump and many Republicans and even some Democrats are doing in this country. Many of our elected officials today are products of the Dr. Spock mindset that took over this nation 50 years ago. And indeed, many Americans are also products of that same mentality.

Ignorance is like a parasite that has grown to unimaginable extremes that prevents America from realizing how perilously close we are to turning our backs on the democracy that our Founding Fathers forged of this nation. When we have a presidential candidate like Senator Sanders we become aware of the dangers we face today and he is ridiculed, ostracized and considered insane for his heartfelt proposals that will alleviate the suffering many face today, again blamed on the inadequacies of not only the poor education system. but of the family structure that has been decimated by failed economic policies and a general moral decline that resulted from our overwhelming acceptance of Dr. Spock’s philosophy.

Many of my generation have begun to realize the scope and depth of the dangers of not realizing what our society has become. And, as a nation founded on the principles of liberty, justice, education, and morality, where these principles have been dismantled by bogus policies, Supreme Court decisions, and Dr. Spock mania only to ignore and scorn reforms that would restore our foundation . rights and the truth of our history is an agenda this nation cannot afford.
Until we as a nation realize what our own history is supposed to teach us and realize that we were so gullible in accepting an ideology that caused more harm to our society 50 years ago without being willing to accept the reforms that rectify many of the crisis facing this American nation the days are numbered.
