Depression and Mental Illness: 7 Foods That Cure Depression and Mental Illness

It basically comes down to what you put into your body. Depression and mental illness is, among other things, a disorder of the chemicals within the brain. If you’re not feeding that body of yours, it’s going to be sick. it won’t take anymore. You will be depressed. Think of it this way: if you don’t water a plant and give it some compost, it won’t perform properly and it won’t bear fruit.

During the great depression (not the one coming upon us now, the one in the 1930s) many people in the southern United States ate a lot of corn which is very low in tryptophan. Tryptophan is converted in the body to niacin. Niacin has been shown many times to treat people with severe cases of depression and mental illness. Most of those people suffered from palligra, which is a lack of vitamin B3. Among other things they suffered from dementia, schizophrenia and psychosis. Everyone had been severely affected by it and at some point it was discovered that vitamin B3, niacin, is the answer. Once a little niacin was added to their diet, 90% of them were cured. This is just one example of what proper nutrition can do with chronic disease. Here are 7 more:

  1. Eat raw! Here is an exercise. Take a whole month and eat fresh raw foods in that month. That’s not to say you should make it a vegetarian month, by all means take your protein from meat but don’t cook your veggies. Eat lots of fresh salad that is made from tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, lettuce, bell peppers, brown mushrooms, avocados, sprouts, red onion, garlic, salt, pepper, lemon juice, and tons of extra virgin olive oil. And at the end of the month see if you feel better.
  2. Eat a lot of fruit. And organic is better.
  3. Swallow niacin. If you’re depressed and take 250-500 mg of niacin, you’ll probably feel better in 15 minutes. Niacin has been shown time and time again to treat depression. You will have a blush, but that’s okay, don’t worry about it. And if you don’t feel better after 15 minutes, take more niacin.
  4. Immerse your body with lots of vitamin C. Vitamin C will help create some chemicals, that is, brain chemicals (see the beginning of the article) that will improve your mood.
  5. Eat foods with tryptophan. Cashew, chicken and turkey and, in general, walnuts are high in tryptofen. A couple of handfuls of cashews will treat the body against depression naturally, just like a prescription dose of Prozac. Cashews are fattening I know, but cashews are a meal in themselves, you won’t be hungry after eating two handfuls of cashews. And besides, who cares about getting fat if you can get rid of depression. And that brings me to nutrition number 6:
  6. Exercise. Exercise and exercise. Don’t abuse the body, 3-4 hours of exercise a week will do wonders for your body and work out all those cashews.
  7. Combine all of the above. There is a way to cure depression, and you have to work for it, nothing is instant and there is no magic pill. In fact, all those pills you’re taking for depression will magically kill you. Depression is a serious disease and must be treated naturally to have a high chance of success.
