This is done in order to provide the necessary information so that the residents of each place and their neighboring community take the necessary precautionary measures against possible heat stroke and other ailments due to the increase in temperature and humidity. The eight strategic locations where moisture is measured for data collection are in Alpena, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Houghton Lake, Lansing, Muskegon, and Sault Ste Marie. Daily readings that are averaged on a 24 hour basis are taken every 3 hours. The morning reading is set at 7 am and an afternoon reading is also taken which is set at 4 pm.

For Houghton Lake, the daily reading is 75, while the morning and afternoon readings are 85 and 61, respectively. For Lansing the daily reading is 74 while the AM and PM reading are 84 and 61 respectively. For Muskegon, the daily reading is 73, while the AM and PM readings are 81 and 63 respectively. And for Sault Ste Marie, the daily reading is 77 while the AM and PM reading are 85 and 66 respectively.
