For believers in a ‘Higher Power’ of any hue, there must be times when one wonders if that heavenly body ever loses patience with what goes on below.
Just imagine that said entity, after creating a magical gift like the planet Earth, balks at the mere sight of the inflicted destruction created by modern day human rulers.
So imagine, if you will, Earth designed to be the epitome of perfection, with deep blue oceans teeming with purifying marine life, corals and fauna.
The lush green pastures and forests, a veritable playground for animals of all kinds to play and multiply.
And a sky, lovingly painted in an infinite pastel of blue. The Sun, positioned to cover the world with daylight. Your health gives the rays a source of energy, vitamins, and radiation to promote growth essential for plant life on Earth.
Then, to offer a touch of joy, brightly colored birds were added to fly freely over the thermal currents singing and singing their own sweet song.
Insects of all shapes and sizes, also amusing themselves by cleaning and grooming the soil, while ‘Mother Nature’ employs them as her little pollen carriers to fertilize the eagerly awaiting flowers.
Finally, the world came man and woman in human form. With a purpose they were first made humble, introduced as one more species in this vast orb of paradise.
But humans weren’t created equal, far from it. They were enhanced in their powers, featuring highly dexterous hands and a powerful brain, capable of ever-expanding thought and development. The human being, by design, was destined to evolve, flourish and ultimately achieve dominance over the planet.
In fact they flourished for countless centuries. Through trial and error and the use of ingenuity, humans conquered the arts of cultivation, breeding, and propagation. This differentiated them from other species, now they could not only create food, but also store it for when they needed it.
Thus, humans could concentrate their powerful minds on an ever larger scale. Over time, however, the human drive to improve the world began to lose its way. Progress was twisted in the search for false gods called money and power.
The simple basics of life, as originally created for beauty, necessity, or utility, were being abused in the pursuit of profit. The true purpose of evolution is corrupted by neglect, or as mere collateral damage to man’s short-term goals.
So, by now, believers in the ‘Celestial Body’ should not be criticized for wondering if some of the world’s natural disasters weren’t in some way an early warning of displeasure as thrown from on high?
The words: “Don’t push your luck too far, humans!” She comes to mind.
But such actions in the past were favorably a regional problem, while now life-threatening pollution and abuse circle the globe. Those original blue oceans are now awash with debris. Lush green pastures and forests, plundered for minerals, or stripped to return ever-increasing profits to ‘The Man’.
Originally, the human leaders were men of vision who nurtured the earth while thanking her for her blessings. Such men of wisdom are now sadly gone, and in their place sit narrow-minded men of money, thirsty for power and addicted to wealth.
Some remarkably useless caretakers, lacking intellect, or just plain uninterested, actually lecture the beauty of power and wealth. With heads held high and chests puffed out, they defend how the final value of the world is calculated in the monetary representation of a long line of zeros on a computer screen.
So, all things considered, who would blame the ‘Higher Power’ who disregards such useless views to take any action? How can such men of power, deaf, dumb and blind to reason, be made to see that they are leading the world in the wrong direction?
Subtle warnings from the past have come and gone with no effect, Mother Nature has shown her power in many ways in recent years, but no change of direction seems to be in the offing.
Has the time finally come for a ‘Final Warning’ from on high to expire?
For my part, I can almost hear the words from the heavens…
“Send the Covid-19!”
