Laughter is good for the soul

Let’s define soul for clarity: it is your mind, will and emotions. Watch your thoughts/how you think and where you reason. It will be where you make your choices. Emotions the place of your feelings.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 and 4 of The Message Bible talks about an opportune time for everything on earth, including laughter.

1 There is an opportune time to do things, a proper time for everything on earth:

4 A proper time to weep and a proper time to laugh, a proper time to lament and a proper time to rejoice,

I have been in a long season of life that many times has taken the wind out of my sail. I continue to grow and find purpose as well as the lessons I needed to learn in order to move forward in my life. So much was hitting me at once and I found myself losing my joy. Laughter was not evident in my life due to a season of mourning all the loss.

Proverbs 17:22 The Amplified Bible says that “A cheerful heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind is healthy, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.”

She had to find joy and laughter despite everything she was going through. My disposition is to encourage and encourage others. I had to deliberately choose to laugh, and I did so by watching clean comedy and uplifting movies, as well as ministry programs designed to heal my soul. I talked to counselors whether they were professionals or friends. I pray daily throughout my day committing to heal my soul.

Laughter was crucial to me in helping me relax and ease the things I was growing up with. There were and are days when joy and laughter are hard to find, but I made and continue to make a conscious decision that laughter is something I needed to have to achieve balance in my life.

Psalm 3:3 The World English Bible says that “But you, Yahweh, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.” Yes, God is the one who lifts my head through the words of encouragement and the laughter that brightens my life.

Laughter is also healing because it releases endorphins that have a calming effect on the body and release stress. After a good laugh I also see things clearer. Give yourself a break and take the time to laugh. Laughter is really good for the soul!

Quote: Laughter is important, not only because it makes us happy, but it also has real health benefits. And that’s because laughter fully engages the body and frees the mind. It connects us with others, and that in itself has a healing effect. marlo tomas
