Lavender and pain

This week has been filled with surprising passages: Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, and several others who are loved and revered by millions. Both the people close to these people and the people around the world are in mourning. Flowers can help us in many ways to let go of pain and feel the free flow of love again. Lavender takes a slightly different approach to helping ease our feelings of pain.

In a popular monthly magazine, there is an article about Irish Lee Underwood and her transformative experience with lavender. His daughter had been dead for seven years when she stroked a piece of lavender she was harvesting and “the cloud of pain that hung over me dissipated.”

So what is working here?

Two things:
1. She was willing to release her grievance.
2. Lavender provided the portal.

The true portal is beauty and finding and experiencing beauty. Lavender shares its beauty on many levels, addressing most, if not all, of our senses: its visual beauty, its sweet fragrance (which is intensified by handling or crushing it), its delicious taste, and its velvety smoothness.

So when we EXPERIENCE the slightest beauty, when consciousness / consciousness penetrates, whether through site, sound, smell or whatever, it can disintegrate the entire “cloud of pain” in one go, much in the the way a small pinprick pops a bubble. And lavender has a very intense fragrance that can pierce the veil when no other beauty is registered.

So when you’re ready to go beyond the pain, consider lavender in all its beauty.

Lavender Affirmation: I experience and enjoy the beauty of the world around me in many ways.

With joy and with love,
