Saina Nehwal (born March 17, 1990) is an Indian professional badminton player who has won more than 23 international titles, including 10 super series titles. She is the first Indian to win the Badminton World Junior Championship and a medal in all major BWF (Badminton World Federation) events like the Olympic Games, BWF Championship and Junior Championship. In 2006, she became the first Indian woman and the youngest Asian to win a 4-star tournament. In 2015, she became the first badminton player from India to become the world number 1 player and the second Indian player after Prakash Padukone. Throughout his career, he has proven himself by winning first place at the 2009 BWF Super series, gold medal at the 2010 and 2018 Commonwealth games, bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, besides this he also won Super series title in 2009., Indian Open Grand Prix Title in 2009, Singapore Super Series, Indonesia Super Series, India Open Grand Prix Gold title in 2010, Hongkong Super series in 2010, Swiss Open GP Gold Title in 2011. In 2012, he won several tournaments, including the Indonesia Open, the Danish Open, and the China Open. She is the first player to win the Asian Badminton Satellite Tournament twice and the World Super Series three times. At the age of 18, Sania was named the 2008 ‘Most Promising Player of the Year’ by the Badminton World Federation, in addition to receiving the prestigious Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Padma Shri Award and Padma Bhushan Award from the Government of India. She was named a member of the Athletes Commission of the International Olympic Committee. She is supported by Olympic Gold Quest.
