With the holidays approaching, here’s a guide to point you in the right direction for Christmas gifts!

Razor Scooter:

These scooters have been all the rage for the past few years. Kids love to ride them around the house, to their friends’ houses, and some like to play tricks on them. The sleek silver scooter made by Razor continues to be the most popular model. Scooters are easier to lift than a bike for children, since it requires less balance. Even small children can use them!

Razor makes a Jr. size scooter that has a second rear wheel, giving the scooter enough stability for little ones. Radio Flyer also makes a toddler scooter, but with a second wheel in front instead of in the back. The scooters are adjustable so they really grow with your child. These are also much cheaper than a bike! Scooters typically cost between $30 and $80, depending on the model and size.

Dress clothes:

Dress up clothes are great for both boys and girls! Boys are not into princess costumes like girls, but they like to dress up as firemen, lions, and ninjas. Dress-up clothes encourage imagination and creative play, and are one of those toys that don’t get old. Many homeschool organizations use costumes to teach about other cultures and for free play time. Girls love to wear princess costumes and dance. If you decide to dress up as a Christmas present, don’t forget the accessories! Girls need feather boas for their princess costumes and boys need toy guns for their cowboy costumes!

Nintendo DS:

The Nintendo DS lite is making a splash with kids right now. With simple games for little boys, Hannah Montana games for girls, and racing games for boys, the DS is a great toy for everyone. Although this is a more expensive gift, it will last a long time! Many parents feel that the Nintendo DS is a great investment, as it makes a great travel toy for kids to take with them.

Laity:

Legos do not age or expire. Also, there are so many variations of Legos that you can always give a child an expansion to their Lego set. There are pirate ships, animals, planes, cars, castles and the list goes on and on. Lego even created a “pink bricks” set for girls, with Lego accessories designed just for girls! Giant, squishy blocks are ideal for toddlers and babies, while smaller, more detailed Legos provide more creative options for older children.

Clothes:

Here’s a semi-responsible gift to give children. Kids seem to rummage through clothes so fast it’s hard to find a moment when they don’t need more clothes! Back-to-school clothes are starting to get a little worn out, the seasons have changed, and for the most part, kids have outgrown their Christmas dresses and dress-up clothes.

The girls probably need a new Christmas dress for the season and the boys a new tie and pants. New pajamas on Christmas Eve are a family tradition for my family; We all like to sleep in new pajamas and wake up in them on Christmas morning. Regardless of what you buy, clothing is one of those “necessities” that people usually like to receive.
