Over the past 35 years, I have reviewed literally thousands of professional resumes. We regularly review the resumes of candidates and make decisions about which of these candidates will advance in the selection process for our client companies. You should also know that most hiring managers use analytics software to filter many of the resumes they receive. When resumes are selected, they are quickly reviewed for relevance (approximately 30 seconds) and then passed on for further review. When you receive literally hundreds of resumes for a job position, you can imagine why we must be efficient yet selective as we move candidates through the recruitment process. That said, as a job seeker, you don’t have a lot of time to share irrelevant information on your resume because you’ll lose the hiring manager’s attention. There are three components to your resume that get the most attention from hiring managers. They should have top-of-the-page content, a value proposition statement, and include targeted keywords. In other words, these are the words that are relevant to the job ad.

We know some resumes are one page long and we’ve seen 6 page resumes [CV] for MD/Ph.D. or senior management professionals. But I still find that the most popular length for a resume is two pages. I ask that you keep in mind that the sole purpose of your resume is to get the hiring manager’s attention and to secure a face-to-face interview. So whether you decide to write your own resume or use a consultant to build the resume, that’s entirely up to you. With the ability to search the web for resume templates, you’ll find the tips I give you will be just as helpful and cost-effective in helping you write your own resume and literally saving you hundreds of dollars.

Above the fold

When the information is placed above the fold, it is first visible when the employer loads the page on their computer. In the case of a printed resume [8.5×11]The most important parts of your resume are printed in the top half of the first page of your resume.

Content layout and placement are important because content that appears in the top half of the page is the first thing seen when the user loads the page…due to its high visibility, content that is placed in the middle top of the page should have the most important skills and qualifications. relevant to the job.

Value proposition statement

Value proposition statements are a key component of your resume. It lets the hiring manager know the value he will immediately bring to the job when he is hired. When he writes his value proposition statement, it’s very important that he write it in a way that paints a picture of the value he will bring to the company. We believe that a value proposition statement should be no more than five lines. With this in mind, you should spend time developing an impactful value proposition statement. Key points to keep in mind when developing your value proposition statement:

Identify all the benefits your skills and qualifications offer.

Describe what makes your skills and qualifications valuable to the client.

Touch the main challenge of entrepreneurs [wants] It should be included in the job description.

Plug in the value you bring based on the job description.

Other candidates are also applying for this position. You will need to differentiate yourself as the preferred candidate for this job.

Your value proposition statement should describe; how your skills and qualifications will bring value to the employer, what benefits the employer can expect, and why the company should hire you for the position.

Keywords

Keywords should be words or short phrases that are related to the requirements of the position. They are the skills, abilities, credentials, and qualities that a hiring manager looks for in a candidate. Take some time and read through the entire job description for the express purpose of identifying keywords that are important to the job function. Then you need to take these keywords and incorporate them into your resume. In no time, you’ll be comfortable using these keywords in a conversation that conveys your strengths for the position.

As you can see, you will need to think about placing these three components on top of the fold. Your resume will need to effectively represent you until you have a chance to get a face-to-face interview. But know that with a little thinking, editing, and finding ways to keep your content relevant, you’ll end up with an impactful professional resume.
