The international market for ornamental stone has seen the use of materials extracted from Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and South America, characterized by low labor cost. This event has embedded the competition in this field. Therefore, it becomes critical to produce high-quality machined products in a more efficient manner. This work aims to design and make a prototype to automatically classify Coreno’s Royal Perlato tiles. It is based on artificial vision. The implemented visual hardware system is economical because it is made up of readily available components and is easily obtainable by small and medium-sized ornamental stone companies. The developed software algorithm is based on a multivariate analysis of variance and a quadratic discriminant analysis. The experimental results show that the developed hardware and software system allows to correctly classify all the Royal Perlato de Coreno tiles. In addition, the developed system not only improves selection efficiency but also reduces disputes between the manufacturer and the buyer, making the classification of tiles more selective and increasing the number of qualitative classes taken into account. Finally, it allows duplication in the selection line without altering the dispersion of the data.

Marble is a metamorphic rock made from limestone. When limestone is put under tremendous pressure for a long time (as if the limestone were buried under many other rocks or an ocean), it is crushed into marble. Marble is more beautiful than limestone and stronger, so people like to use it for buildings.

But marble is also rarer and more expensive. A lot of marble is white, but marble can come in all different colors. In ancient Greece and Rome, people used marble (especially white marble) to make statues, and they used colored marble in patterns to make hard floors that would last a long time. Different colors of marble came from different parts of the Roman empire – purple came from Egypt, for example – and so this was also a way of showing off, of pointing out how powerful Rome was, that the Senate could bring stone from all these faraway places that They were ruled by Rome.
