Bed bugs are known as one of the most hated household pests. They can cause many discomforts, such as insomnia, psychological problems and allergic reactions.

Their cryptic habits and ability to hide in cracks and crevices make them extremely difficult to kill. No single treatment can kill bed bugs. You need a variety of treatments to kill bed bugs, two of which are cold treatment and spraying.

The insect cannot withstand extreme temperatures. Studies have shown that the pest dies within 30 minutes of exposure to a temperature of -17°C (1.4°F), the insect’s freezing point.

There are 3 freezing techniques: freezer cold, naturally cold environment, and frozen CO2. In each case, the temperature must be at least -17°C. If your home freezer can reach this temperature, it’s a good way to kill bed bugs on fabrics sensitive to extreme heat.

Wrap the object in a sheet, towel, or other type of absorbent material that collects condensation. Place the wrapped item in a plastic bag, squeeze the air out of the bag and seal it tightly.

Put the item in the freezer for at least 2 weeks. Avoid defrosting freezers because they are very dry and do not maintain a constant temperature throughout their cycle. Do not freeze objects made from layers of paints, lacquerware, ivory, or photographs. Objects consisting of a material such as wool or wood are ideal.

Cryonitis

Cryonite is the leading CO2 product on the market designed to kill bed bugs. The cryonite freezes the fluid in the insect’s cells, causing instant death. The cells crystallize when the insect is cooled to -20°C to -30°C. Snow is -78.8 °C (110 °F). CO2 snow evaporates and turns into CO2 gas when it hits normal temperature surfaces.

Cryonite is available to rent or purchase. You do not need a license to operate it.

Benefits

has. Freezes pests in hard-to-reach areas like cracks and crevices.

b. Kill bed bugs fast.

against Kills the insect at all stages of the life cycle.

d. Leaves no messy residue and requires no drying time.

me. Can be used on any surface. The cold does not penetrate the material.

F. The CO2 in Cryonite is non-toxic.

gram. It removes the insects from the shelter and makes them an easy target for the vacuum nozzle.

H. Infested items that cannot withstand extreme heat and are not sensitive to moisture are perfect for treating with Cryonite.

Yo. Deep freezing is a quick DIY treatment.

d. Freezing with Cryonite takes a short time to kill bed bugs.

drawbacks

has. Freezing has no residual effect.

b. Pests can re-infest.

health and safety issues

Please read the instructions carefully before using the Cryonite unit. Be very careful with the snow. It can reach temperatures of -110°F. This can burn the skin.

Fumigation

In an extremely severe infestation, fumigation is the best bed bug treatment. This bed bug treatment kills pests at all stages of their life cycle. Fumigation gases remain in the air and spread easily over a wide area.

Ethylene oxide (ETO), a gaseous fumigant used in libraries in the 1980s, causes serious health problems for workers. Studies have shown that ETO can alter the physical and chemical properties of paper, parchment, and leather.

Residual ETO remains in the untreated material causing the release of toxins. Lethal fumigants include methyl bromide, sulfur dioxide, propylene oxide, sulfuryl fluoride, and aluminum phosphide. Asphyxiants such as carbon dioxide and liquid nitrogen are classified as fumigants.

There is a heavy reliance on spray treatment, especially in severe infestations as insects are developing resistance to household pesticides.

Benefits

has. Kills bed bugs at all stages of the life cycle.

b. It can be applied to the whole room.

against It is the ideal treatment for severe infestation.

drawbacks

has. It has no residual effect.

b. It is the most toxic of all pesticides.

against Pests can re-infest after treatment wears off.

This treatment is very expensive and it is necessary to hire a special team to fumigate an entire room. However, when the treatment is done correctly, all insects in the infested area are guaranteed to die.
