Effective Remedies for Bone and Joint Pain/Arthritis

Joint pain could be caused by a strain, sprain, or some other injury that affects the ligaments or tendons that surround a joint. Alternatively, joint pain could be the result of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or gout.

While the pain can occur anywhere in the body, the knees, shoulders, and hips are the most vulnerable.

Home remedies can be very effective in curing joint pain, but severe joint pain, when caused by degenerative conditions like arthritis, needs proper diagnosis and treatment. Alternatively, one should make sure to consult a doctor in case the joint pain is accompanied by redness or swelling, or lasts for more than three days.

Let us review some of the most effective home remedies for joint pain:

1. Massage:

A massage simply works to improve circulation and calm inflammation. And regular massage can go a long way in reducing pain, stiffness, and also range of motion in the affected joint.

To massage the affected area, some of the best alternatives include warm oil, such as coconut, olive, mustard, castor or garlic oil, and gentle pressure should be applied while massaging.

2. Hot and cold compress:

A hot and cold compress could be a very effective way to let one get over joint pain. With heat therapy, pain decreases, one can increase blood flow and relax sore muscles and joints.

In the same way, cold therapy numbs the areas around affected joints while reducing inflammation. One should treat hot and cold compress for a diseased joint as follows.

o Wrap both compresses in separate towels before use. They should not be applied directly to the skin.

o Place the hot compress on the affected area for about three minutes.

o Remove the compress and immediately replace it with a cold compress.

o Repeat the process for 15-20 minutes every day.

But one should try to make sure not to use the hot pack if the area is red, bruised or irritated.

3. Fenugreek:

Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties make fenugreek a popular home remedy. In particular, it is beneficial if one suffers from arthritis.

To cure a joint pain, you need to use Fenugreek as follows.

o Swallow a teaspoon of finely ground fenugreek seeds and cover with a glass of warm water. Doing it every morning will surely give a positive result.

o Alternatively, you can soak a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in water overnight and consume them the next morning.

4. Garlic:

Garlic is very beneficial for someone suffering from arthritis and joint pain, mainly due to its high sulfur and selenium content. While sulfur helps relieve joint pain and inflammation, it also has an anti-rheumatic effect.

Similarly, high selenium content works very effectively for someone suffering from arthritis because arthritic patients tend to have low levels of selenium in their blood.

To cure a sore joint, you should choose to use garlic in the following ways.

o Have raw or cooked garlic as part of your diet, and it is quite safe to consume 2-3 cloves every day.

o Or you can use garlic as a topical remedy.

– Fry two cloves of garlic in two tablespoons of mustard or sesame oil. When the cloves turn black, turn off the heat and strain the oil.

– Let the oil cool until it is comfortably warm.

– Massage it into the skin around the affected area.

– Leave it on for three hours before washing it off. Doing it twice a day could be a very effective way to cure joint pain.
