Bhrigu Rishi (saint) is a popular figure in Hindu mythology. He is recognized as a Vedic Saint and is credited with compiling what is known as Samhita. This is a collection of various independent horoscopes and insights. It is named after the Bhrigu Rishi. Saint Bhrigu is supposed to be the first compiler of prophetic astrology, i.e. the fifth Veda of the Treta Yuga. The first four Vedas were supposed to be the work of Lord Brahma. These books are now recognized throughout the world as significant material.

The Bhrigu Samhita is an astrological classic. It is actually a form of predictive astrology and its origin dates back to the Vedic era and the beginnings of Hindu culture and civilization. Due to their inherent class, Bhrigu’s predictions in the form of Samhita are of great importance and are revered to some extent by Hindus. There are many examples of the amazing predictions of the Rishi. This is something that cannot be explained by western astrology. Around 1945, the late KM Munshi, leader of the Congress and editor of the ‘Bhavans Journal’, recounted a very interesting episode. During his visit to Hoshiarpur, the pundit claimed that he had the original brighu samhita. The pundit after taking the details of KM Munshi’s birth started reading from a particular page. Munshi records that the first sentence on the page referred to a particular person and a particular date. The date was KM Munshi’s visit to Hoshiarpur. The pundit kept reading and after a while he read that when you get to this sentence your secretary will remind you of an important appointment. At the moment the pundit read this line, KM Munshi’s secretary, who was in the next room, rushed in and reminded the Congress leader that he had an appointment with the Maharaja of Kashmir. Isn’t it wonderful that such a forecast can be made?

The Saint Bhrigu perfected the knowledge of Hindu predictive astrology. He is supposed to have made horoscopes many centuries ago that are valid even today. No scientist can explain how a horoscope cast thousands of years ago can be so accurate. Another interesting example is that of General JN Choudhry, who as Army Commander, Western Command paid one last visit to Hoshiarpur before retiring. The pundit read his horoscope and informed the general that the man who will listen to this horoscope will be the chief of the Indian army. The General took this with a pinch of salt as he was retiring at the end of the month. But circumstances developed in such a way that his retirement was canceled and he took over as head of the Indian Army.

I only give these examples as an illustration of the amazing power of the holy Bhrigu. Even now such forecasts are beyond the limits of a skilled astrologer. How could Bhrigu do this? The answer lies in deeper study. Some time ago about 200 scientists after studying the planets in human life came to the conclusion that the planets have no influence on the life of an individual. Such information is very childish, since science has so far not been able to reveal the essence of astrology. Otherwise, how could Bhrigu, who lived during the Vedic age, make such predictions? Could it just be luck? I do not think so. All I can say is that the cosmic secrets are yet to be unraveled and only after that will Bhrigu’s work be understood.
