One of the biggest mistakes I see beginning internet marketers make is with their title tag on their web page. Actually, the title tag is one of the most important pieces of the web page that Google and other search engines look at when deciding how to rank the page. It’s at the top of the page, it’s in the blue bar, so in most browsers that’s the title tag. The title tag should be exactly what that page is about. It is important to use the keywords that the page is optimized for in the title tag.

In fact, keywords should be used first, if not alone. If other words are added, this tends to dilute the importance of the title in rankings. In other words, if your site is about leather dog collars, you might have leather dog collars. You could also put a dash after the leather dog collars and say something like free shipping or low prices or custom designs, something like that to get people’s attention because the title of a web page is what Google shows in bold on the searches.

In other words, if someone does a search for custom dog collars and finds your site, or finds a list of sites on Google, they’ll all have the title tags in bold, and that’s what people see when they search. So the title is not only important so that the search engines know how to rank you, but it is also very important because when people search on the search engine, they see your title in bold and the title tag is what which usually attracts people to click. on your site when they do a search.

Therefore, it is very important to not only make those that are search engine friendly, but also to make them human friendly. You’re going to be on a search results page with 10 other sites, so when someone does a search for custom leather dog collars, your page needs to stand out in some way. If there are a number of other sites that only have custom made leather dog collars, you can add something at the end, like free shipping or custom collars or something like that to make your listing stand out from the rest.

If yours is like the rest, then there’s nothing there that will stick out in people’s minds when they do that search. Therefore, keep the title tag short and to the point. If possible, you want the tag to be just the keyword that page is optimized for. The more words you add to the title tag, the more watered down the important keyword becomes. I see a lot of people write title tags that are 10 or 15 words, that’s not good because let’s say yours is three words, and that’s all you have, so it’s 100% relative.

But, if your title tag is 15 words long and your keyword is only three words long, then it’s 80% diluted by doing that. Therefore, it is very important that they are brief and that they go exactly to the point where the page was optimized.
